500 Million Euro for Charging Infrastructure: New Opportunities for Installers in Germany
The market for electromobility in multi-family buildings is getting a massive boost. As of April 15, 2026, the German federal government has launched a new funding program worth 500 million euro, specifically aimed at supporting the installation of charging stations in multi-unit dwellings.
For you as an installer, this is the perfect opportunity to expand your business within Homeowners' Associations (WEGs) and with private landlords. While charging in single-family homes is already well-established, the greatest potential for the coming years lies in large residential complexes.
The 2026 funding package: what is covered?
The new subsidy is aimed at WEGs, private landlords, and small businesses with residential portfolios. What makes this special is that it’s not just the wallbox itself that is subsidized, but the entire project. Funding includes:
The purchase of charging stations (wallboxes).
The necessary technical preparation (cabling, grid connection).
Construction measures (earthworks, breakthroughs).
Subsidy rates per parking space:
Up to €1,500 for the installation including the wallbox.
Up to €2,000 if a charging point is installed that supports bidirectional charging.
Up to €1,300 if only the pre-cabling (Ready-to-Charge) is initially carried out.
The rules for your planning
To ensure your customers receive the funding, you must consider three key criteria during the planning phase:
Minimum Number: At least 6 parking spaces must be electrified, or at least 20% of the existing parking spaces must be pre-cabled.
Green Electricity Requirement: The electricity for the charging points must come from renewable energy sources – either via a corresponding supply contract or directly from an on-site photovoltaic system.
Certified Contractor: The installation must be carried out by a professional specialist company (like yours).
The right to charge: barriers have fallen
In addition to the funding, the current Condominium Modernization Act (WEMoG) strengthens your position. Tenants and apartment owners have a legal right to the approval of a charging station. Homeowners' associations can no longer fundamentally block the expansion. As an installer, you are the crucial partner here to check technical feasibility and implement integrated load management.
Scalable solutions with top brands
For projects in multi-family buildings, intelligent load management is essential to avoid overloading the building's grid connection. At ESTG, you will find the right systems from Tier 1 brands specifically developed for these requirements:

The application deadline runs until November 10, 2026, but funds are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Use this argument in your consultation meetings to finalize projects now.

FAQ: What Installers Need to Know
Who can apply for the subsidy? Homeowners' Associations (WEGs), their property managers, private landlords, and small businesses with residential real estate.
Does the funding also apply to the expansion of existing systems? Yes, as long as the newly created charging points meet the minimum requirements (e.g., 6 new spots or 20% pre-cabling).
Does the wallbox have to be bidirectional? No, but bidirectional charging points receive the highest subsidy of €2,000. This is a strong argument for future-proof premium installations.
How is the PV system accounted for? The combination with solar power is explicitly encouraged. If the customer already has a PV system, the condition for "electricity from renewable energy" is already met.
Where can I find the list of eligible wallboxes? The KfW and the Federal Ministry of Transport maintain lists of eligible models. Most brands listed at ESTG, such as Wallbox, SolarEdge, and Growatt, meet these technical standards.
