PGS 37-1 Guidelines

PGS 37-1 Guidelines: Is your battery installation ready for the future?

The energy storage market is growing at lightning speed, but with that growth comes extra responsibility. For you as an installer, safety is always priority number one. To guarantee and standardize this safety, the PGS 37-1 was established. Although these guidelines will be legally anchored from 2027, they already have a major impact on how insurers and inspectors view battery installations today.

Is your current offering already prepared for these standards? In this blog, we dive into the most important requirements and show how the Growatt AXE 60.0H aligns perfectly with these regulations.

What is PGS 37-1?

The PGS 37-1 (Publication Series Dangerous Substances) is the guideline for the safe storage of electricity in Lithium-ion batteries. The goal is simple: minimizing fire risks and limiting the consequences should something go wrong.

Key focus areas within PGS 37-1 include:

  • Fire Compartmentalization: Requirements for the room where the battery is located.

  • Safety Distances: How far must a system be from the property boundary or other objects?

  • Extinguishing Facilities: What must be present in case of an emergency?

  • Monitoring: Continuous surveillance of the battery status (BMS).

The Role of EOS Inspection

Insurers increasingly demand an EOS inspection (Electrical Storage Systems) based on PGS 37-1. Without a positive inspection report, it can be difficult for a commercial client to get the installation insured. Therefore, it is essential to choose hardware designed with these safety requirements in mind.

Future-Proof Installing with the Growatt AXE 60.0H

When looking at the strict requirements of PGS 37-1, the Growatt AXE 60.0H (the commercial 60 kWh high-voltage system) stands out as a safe choice. This system is not only powerful but also built according to the latest safety standards:

  1. Cobalt-Free LiFePO4 Technology: The AXE series uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP). This chemical composition is significantly more stable and less flammable than traditional cobalt-based batteries, directly contributing to meeting PGS risk profiles.

  2. Modular Design: Thanks to its stacked structure, the system is easy to place and maintain, which is crucial for accessibility requirements during inspections.

  3. Advanced BMS: Growatt’s Battery Management System continuously monitors the temperature and status of each cell, allowing for early intervention in case of deviations.

  4. Easy Scalability: For commercial projects, you can connect up to 10 systems in parallel (up to 600 kWh), while safety is guaranteed through uniform control.

Prepare Now for 2027

Although the legislation officially takes effect in 2027, PGS 37-1 is already the standard for quality today. By choosing systems like the Growatt AXE, you offer your customers an installation that not only works today but will still comply with all laws and regulations three years from now.
