# The EU Battery revolution: Everything you need to know about the Battery Passport

There is much talk about the "Battery Passport," but what does it actually mean for your daily work? The **EU Battery Regulation (2023/1542)** is now in effect. The goal is simple: making batteries the most sustainable and safe in the world. For you, this means the "Black Box" finally opens.

Whether you install **[Enphase](/brands/enphase/enphase-batteries)****,** **[Huawei](/brands/huawei/)****, or** **[SMA](/brands/sma/)**, every system over 2 kWh will have its own digital passport.

## What is the Battery Passport exactly? 

It is a digital identity card accessed via a QR code. For you as an installer, you gain a **legal right to access** BMS data.

You will instantly see:

- The **State of Health** (SoH).
- Full maintenance history and safety protocols.
- Detailed repair and disassembly instructions.



## The Timeline

- **February 2026 (Now Active): Carbon Footprint.** Manufacturers must disclose the total CO2 impact of the product.
- **August 2026: New Labels and Symbols.** Batteries must display symbols for lifespan, capacity, and chemical composition.
- **February 2027: The Digital Battery Passport.** Full digital access via QR code becomes mandatory.

- **Is this only for new models?** Yes, for batteries placed on the market after the specific deadlines.
